| With the help of LiDAR technology, wide area elevation information obtained most accurately
and with a cost effecting way. The millions of LiDAR points termed as the point cloud contains
information of both planimetric and DTM features. This data is digital and is directly processed to
produce detailed bare earth DEMs at vertical accuracies of 0.15 meters to 1 meter. |

- Bald earth classified digital terrain models
When the LiDAR is acquired, the raw point data includes echos from the dirt, from the side walk, from the rooftops, from the tree tops, from the top of pole etc..This type of data is not very useful.
A better product is bare earth LiDAR. The process of classifying the LiDAR with only points that are on the ground is said to be Bald earth classification of digital terrain models.
